October 11-16, 2011
From Baltimore, Maryland, to Portsmouth, Virginia

The Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race (GCBSR) was founded to promote public awareness of the Chesapeake Bay's maritime heritage and encourage the preservation and improvement of the Chesapeake's natural resources. We accomplish this goal in part by donating the proceeds of the race to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, an organization working to protect and restore the Chesapeake Bay. To date, $147,624 has been donated to support children's education programs of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

The race begins in Baltimore, Maryland, and ends 127 nautical miles down the Chesapeake Bay in Portsmouth, Virginia. Entry is open to all schooner-rigged vessels.

Close to 40 schooners are expected to participate in this year's 22nd annual race. The race and all race week activities are run by volunteers and donations keep the race going strong. Please join us — as a sailor, sponsor, volunteer or spectator — to make the 2011 race another great event for all involved! Until then, we wish you fair winds and smooth sailing!
